This week Kindred Ink's Sasha caught up with the brilliant tattoo artist, Liam Blundell.
How did you become a tattoo artist?
I had a few tattoos done by an amazing artist Lauren Gow at No Regrets, I mentioned once I wanted to be a tattoo artist she gave me a lot of advice and introduced me to my boss, who agreed to look at my drawings and also gave me some advice. We met a frequently over 2 years to see how my work and my style developed, until one day when I was booking a tattoo in I was offered an apprenticeship.
How would you describe your style in 3 words?
Sketchy, colourful, creative.
Out of all of the tattoos you’ve designed, which is your favourite and why?
One of my favourites is a piece I work don last year which had a unicorn skull done in sketch work with a combination of realistic and watercolour flowers around. It was a great combination of all my favourite styles.
Have you ever tattooed yourself?
I have I tattooed a scorpion above my knee.
Out of your own tattoos which is your favourite and why?
I had a portrait of Jeffree Star done a this year which meant a lot as he is a big inspiration in my life and my confidence to be creative.
What’s the funniest or most random tattoo you’ve ever done / seen and what’s the story behind it?
Probably the most random one was a mermaid with a wolfs head I did not long after I start tattooing. It was a combination of his my client and his sister’s favourite animals.
What advice would you give for someone getting their first tattoo?
Be open minded when it comes to the design there’s this need for your first one to almost control every element of the design process. It's important to find the right artist and trust in their work. Also expect the sensation to be painful as you will be surprised how comfortable it is.
How important is aftercare?
Extremely important when I was practicing I got people to try different processes for aftercare until I got the best result so its trialed and tested.
